Semi Work Related.

So at the urge of Grace, I'm not going to write about work. I will soon I think, but not right now. Especially considering I have to be at work in a few hours. I don't want to right about it.

But it's somewhat related since I work in that gaming industry. This weekend, while the rest of the gaming world has been playing Halo 3 on Live, I've been playing Zelda. I think it's one of the most anticipated hand held releases in a long long time. At least for me.

I got to thinking the last couple of days, I have not played a crappy Zelda game except for the second one for NES. My goodness that was a crappy game. It had huge shoes to fill considering how phenomenal the original Legend of Zelda was, but still. It doesn't even hold a candle.

I digress though. What I initially wanted to say was I really am blown away by the game design for this game. It really pushes the envelope in terms of game play for a Nintendo DS game. Using the stylus, mic, and dual screens to really get the player involved.

If you've ever seen previews for this game, it's obvious the stylus is going to play a huge role. Actually, it's all you use to move and attack. If this was the only thing that they did, it would still be groundbreaking. I mean, there are a lot of games that use the stylus pretty well, but I think it really takes it to a new level.

Mic usage isn't all that often, but the appropriate spots make it work well. I'm not done with it yet, but there will be some spoilers in the next paragraph.

What really blew my mind away was the use of dual screens. It's easy to use two screens for perspective. A lot of games do that already. But the top screen has never been really interactive. I was amazed when one of the puzzles hinted I should put the two screens together. Here I am, closing the my DS as part of the game play.

It really reminded me about Metal Gear Solid 1 and Kojima's little Hideo tricks. Who would have thought to force the player to get out of their seat and switch controller ports? Same idea, what a crazy idea to ask the player to close their game.

Thoroughly impressed.
