Materials.

In most real time strategy games, there is a concept of managing your resources. I was never very good at that.

I think the same applies to life. It is an important skill to learn how to manage resources. Of course everyone has their own guidelines about what it means to manage resources. I've been thinking lots the last couple days about my financial situation. More specifically, I keep wanting to buy stuff. I've come to the realization that I don't need any of this stuff I want to buy.

When I go, I surely won't be able to take my Macbook with 2 gigs, or even 4 gigs of ram. More ram won't let me keep using it after I'm gone. And while new springs for my car would be great, I won't be able to take my car let alone the springs. So then what is important in this world? It surely is not material possessions.

I think I may have had it partially right all this time. I have a tendency to be generous with my friends, when I can at least. While it may not be the soundest investment I will ever make, maybe it was the right one. I feel that I should change my outlook on this money situation. Let's not buy things that I want just because I want them. What should I spend my money on then?

The obvious Christian answer is to glorify God. But what does that mean in a practical aspect? I think for my life, it means building relationships. I want my money to be spent building relationships, somehow in someway. That's not to say I no longer will want things, that in the end are really only about me. I think it's too trained into my system to say I will no longer want things. But I think, at least I hope, I can work on being less selfish about it.

Part of this consumer must die.

thanks for hosting me and jessie! It was great fun going out, staring forever at your turtle, and trash talking over big 2.
