An arc in the sky. L'arc en Ciel has a song by this name. If I remember correctly, it's a pretty good song lyric wise. Of course anything I've read enough to understand has been a translation, but it's already a provocative question so you would imagine any kind of answer to be worthy of song status.
So yeah, what is love? This weekend Katherine & I watched this movie, Imagine Me & You. It ended up that this girl left the man she married for another girl. If you can get past the obvious lesbian influence involved with that, it's a good movie to watch. I would recommend it.
But it asks the question, can you see someone and instantly fall in love with them? Is there such thing as love at first sight? The romantic answer is yes. The movie says yes. There is love at first sight, and everything that happens afterwards is just reaffirming what you knew all along.
This is unlike the idea of getting to know someone, and then realizing you love them. I believe somewhere in the middle. I say you don't know for sure at the begining. But you know, just not for sure.
When I first met Katherine, I knew something. I'm not going to lie, she was never my friend before. I never spent time with her under the pretense that she was a friend. I think I always knew there was something special about her. It just took everything that happened afterwards to show me for sure.
So do I believe in love at first sight? Yes, but not love the way we normally think of it.
To counteract this semi romantic impression of me that appears to be showing itself, I will say it takes more than just love to make a relationship work. That's for the realist in all of us.
