Moving On Love

Remember that Wheel of Fortune category Before and After? That's what this is. Before and after. Let's start with after.

I got this book called On Love for my birthday from my boss. Yeah, random huh? But nonetheless, it was a good book at a good time. I've always heard that some books you can only read at certain times in your life. I would have to agree. My classic example is Old Man and the Sea. Well, now I have another book to add to that list.

If there were ever a term, this is one of the best break up books. It's an international best seller by Alain de Botton. Even if you are not in the midst of a break up it is an entertaining read that anyone who has ever fallen in and out of love can relate to. It's now in the Daniel reading club. If only I had the power of Oprah.

Some of you may know that Katherine and I had started setting up a home for ourselves. We weren't living together, but we had an apartment and started filling it up with stuff. Well, tonight I emptied it of my stuff. It was a surreal feeling.

I was sad to leave. I hung around and thought about how happy I would have been to settle down there. Looking around, I saw all the ikea furniture that we had to put together. Or mostly I put together while she was unpacking things like a microwave or dishes. The looming television reminded me of that adventure lugging it up two flights of stairs. The place didn't have an elevator, and even if it did I don't think the television would have fit.

I've never had a harder time closing a door on my way out.

Remember that before? We move on. That is life, and I'm excited to see where life will take me.

So for some reason I went to BJ's in Cupertino twice this week. I wound up there Saturday night hanging out with a random mish mash of people. I only knew one person there really well, but it was still fun. It's funny how you end up meeting people you hear about. It feels weird to know more about someone than they tell you.

First part: good things come about through much hardship.

Second part: The heavens do not make dead end streets for people (or more figuratively, when God closes one door, he opens another)
