Yesterday we went to Bucca again. Katherine and I have a tendency to go there quite frequently it seems. But perhaps not for a while.

I was thinking, what is this fixation on soldiers? John Mayer says that boys will be soldiers, or something like that. I could actually be getting it wrong. Eminem descibes himself as a soldier. Linkin Park has the street soldier. So what's the deal?

I think a lot of it has to do with imagery. It is a very powerful image, that of a soldier. No matter which way you look at it.

The most important characteristic I see is the ability to keep on going. Soldiers don't have a choice. You either keep going or you die. It doesn't matter if you have a headache, are hungry, or have a bullet lodged in your leg. You keep going. I think that says a lot about character. It's too easy to give up, in every metaphorical sense of the word. I mean, we face struggles all the time, but how hard are they really? I find myself giving up on things because I am lazy. How I long for motivation and a drive to put my best foot forward in all that I do, all the time.

Perseverance is where it's at. Just my opinion.
