This internet is weird. It turns people into thugs who in real life are puny little kids that would never stand up in a fight. I guess it comes with being anonymous. Anyone can call someone harsh names if they are in no danger of getting hurt. I dare you next time to go up to a random person on the street and call them those same names.
Sometimes I feel that freedom of speech is such a wasteful concept. So much effort is spent into pacifying some very vocal minority. Granted, it does have lots of merits. But are they worth it?
Also, there is the idea of worthless information surviving. Anyone who has played MGS2 will recall the comparison of information to genes. Before the internet, there was the concept of suvival of the fittest for information. But now even the most uesless information, even wrongs ones, even hateful personal points of view don't get filtered out of our information pool.
Even blogs don't get filterd out.
The other day during my interview I felt glad I went to Berkeley, for once. I always think that if I had gone somewhere less academically challenging then I would have some high gpa. This in turn would probably help me get a job better. But the recruiter I was talking to mentioned that they only recruit at top tier schools. So it made me somewhat better, for a little bit.
